MONA

Meet Mona

Mona Balooch, a dedicated and empathetic Licensed Clinical Social Worker, is thrilled to join the team at Beacon Psychotherapy in downtown Charleston. Originally from Mumbai, India, Mona’s story is shaped by a diverse array of experiences that honed her resilience, self-reliance and compassion.

Growing up with an older brother with developmental disabilities, she learned early and quickly the importance of independence and empathy. Mona spent formative years at a Catholic boarding school in India, followed by high school at The American School of Kuwait.

At 18, Mona made her way to the West Coast, where she attended California State University in Long Beach. Here she faced personal challenges, including an emotionally and financially abusive marriage. Determined to change her life, Mona sought therapy, which helped her find her way back to herself and out of her toxic circumstance. This pivotal experience ignited what would become a lifelong passion for helping others and inspired her to pursue a career in social work.

For 13 years, Mona worked as a Service Coordinator for the LA County Regional Center, providing crucial support to children and adults with developmental disabilities.Recognizing her calling to make a greater impact, she earned her Master’s in Social Work from California State University, Northridge, all while working full-time. A rising star, her commitment and excellence were quickly recognized at Sherman Oaks Hospital, where she was named Employee of the Year within her first nine months.

In 2020, Mona and her husband changed coasts coming to us here in Charleston. She currently balances work at Roper Hospital on the cardiac floor as a part-time therapist alongside her practice with Beacon Psychotherapy. Bona fide, her professional credentials include being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both South Carolina and California.

Mona approaches therapy with warmth, an open-mind and a collaborative spirit. She understands the vulnerability involved in sharing one’s story and is dedicated to creating a safe space for her patients. Her goal is to help you discover your strengths and develop tools for meaningful change.

Guiding minds by day, outside of her therapy practice you may find Mona conquering CrossFit workouts by night at Rhapsody Fitness. At play, Mona loves traveling and making memories with her adventurous fly fisherman husband and their sassy fur baby, Maya.
